The Manitouwadge General Hospital is pleased to announce that the recipient of the 2012 Judith C. Harris Bursary is Elaine Milks. 

She will pursue her university education in the health care field. 

CEO Jocelyn Bourgoin presented the $1,000 bursary letter at the 2012 High School Graduation Ceremonies on June 27th

The bursary is presented to a local student who plans to pursue their education in a health care related field with the hope that someday, the Hospital may benefit from having our own “home grown students” return our the community to work as a health care professional.

Manitouwadge General Hospital is located in Manitouwadge, north of the north shore of Lake Superior. The town is 54 km off the Trans Canada highway, 400 km east of Thunder Bay and  about 425 km west of Sault Ste Marie.


This facility was designed as a health centre for the entire community, housing not only the hospital, but several other specialized health care services.


The building is situated so that almost all of the patient rooms have a view of Lake Manitouwadge and the hills beyond. In the north wing, there are nine private patient rooms and nine long term care rooms, with pediatrics, isolation room and patient lounges. 


The central core contains the emergency ward, exam rooms, trauma room, reception area, gift shop, doctor's lounge, pharmacy, nursery, medical records and offices. The south wing contains the medical laboratory, diagnostic imaging including ultrasound, echocardiography and BMD, chemo therapy room, food preparation, dining room, maintenance, mechanical, laundry, housekeeping, staff room, physiotherapy, and several other specialized services.


The Hospital recently received the highest level of Accreditation bestowed by Accreditation Canada when it was Accredited with Exemplary Standing.
