The metabolic Program was developed for people who suffer from metabolic syndrome and works toward empowering people to take charge of their health.

Metabolic syndrome is a cluster of conditions that occur together, increasing one’s risk of heart disease, stroke and type 2 diabetes. These conditions include increased blood pressure, high blood pressure, excess body fat around the waist, and abnormal cholesterol or triglyceride levels.

The metabolic care team consists of:

  • Registered dietitian
  • Physiotherapists
  • Primary care provider

Patients are chosen based on their medical conditions including: pre-diabetes, diabetes, elevated lipids, elevated blood pressure and abdominal obesity. Patients must have at least 3 of these conditions to be considered. Patient can also self-refer to the program to be considered.

The length of the program is 6-12 months in duration.

Patients will see the dietitian on the following schedule:

  • Weekly for the first month, then
  • Then monthly

Patients will see the physiotherapist on the following schedule:

  • Twice weekly for 3 weeks, then
  • Weekly for 5 weeks, then
  • 2 times monthly for 4 months

Patients will see their primary care provider at 6 months (in regards to the Metabolic Program). If there are other medical concerns throughout to program, patients are still able to book an appointment with their primary care provider.
