Welcome Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance

Æ

The Manitouwadge Family Health Team registered nurse and the physician work together to provide routine prenatal care.

Patients are followed in the office every 4 weeks until their 28th week, then every 2 weeks until their 36th week and then weekly until they leave the community for delivery of the baby.

Patients can expect to have the following assessments completed:

  • Height
  • Weight
  • Blood pressure
  • Heart rate
  • Health History
  • Healthy Babies Healthy Children Screening
  • Prophylactic ASA Therapy Screen
  • Current symptoms and management
  • Routine prenatal laboratory and diagnostic testing at scheduled intervals
  • Fetal Heart Rate (after 12 weeks)
  • Fundal Height (after 21 weeks)

In most cases, prenatal care is shared with the obstetrician in a community of the patient’s choice. There may be times a patient is seen by their obstetrician out of town instead of being seen locally. Patients required to travel over 100km from Manitouwadge, for specialist care, are eligible for a Northern Health Travel Grant.

Initial prenatal appointments are scheduled for approximately 1 hour to complete an exam and health history.

Subsequent appointments are scheduled for 30 minutes.

Medical directives are in place which allows the registered nurse to order the laboratory and diagnostic testing required for routine prenatal care. These results are reviewed by the patient’s primary care provider.

PLEASE NOTE: We do not provide obstetrical services in Manitouwadge. All patients are referred out of town for delivery. It is highly recommended that the patient be in their delivering community 1-2 weeks prior to their due date.
